Spring 2014
About the Season
Welcome to spring! Three of the programs this season have been the result of some of our recent travel and research trips. While at the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar last June, we met Jonathan Schwartz who joins us as a guest artist in late February for a two night program of his poetic non-fiction films. Also while at the Flaherty we crossed paths with Paige Sarlin who has thoughtfully programmed the videos for Making and Unmaking TV: Interview-Work from the 1980s and 1990s and will join us in March with artist Tony Conrad in tow. Our annual curated program for Experimental Film Festival Portland—a matinee screening and perfect post-brunch activity on June 1—is inspired by work seen recently at Kino Arsenal in Berlin and from new friends at the artist-run film lab Labor Berlin. We’ll be heading out to more festivals, archives, and international screenings over the next few months, and you may well see the fruits of this labor as soon as fall 2014.
This season, we’re also excited to bring young, innovative artist Daniel Schmidt to Portland for a program of his recent collaborative works. And to book-end Cinema Project’s tenth year, we close spring with another round of selections from our program archive. This will be a celebratory evening with movies shared in good company under the stars!
Once again, our little ship sails to various venues around Portland, making stops at familiar ports such as the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Hollywood Theatre, and Clinton Street Theater. Be sure to check individual program listings for location information.
